On Friday we ate breakfast at the guest house then headed toward Cape Town. Our first stop was the District 6 museum where Joe, an evicted resident of District 6, showed us around. We had lunch at Charly's, a flamboyant restaurant on the boundary of District 6. After filling up on meat pies and cupcakes, Vernon and Parks took us on walkabouts around the city to help get us oriented. We had dinner at Ocean Basket, a fresh sea food joint with waiters dressed as giant prawns.
The plaque outside the District 6 museum. District 6 was an area that experienced forced removals on the basis of race during apartheid.

Charly's (!) sits on the edge of District 6, an area that is still mostly empty. This juxtaposition of light-heartedness and the apartheid legacy is one of many found throughout the city.
