Day 1, Day 1, Day 1!

Africa grows impressive cacti.

Our first orientation session before venturing in to the city.

Getting settled on our bus. We spend a great deal of time within these orange curtains.

Rev. Vernon Rose is our program and internship coordinator. He teaches us what we need to know, and we appreciate him a lot.  Vernon took us to the city to exchange money and buy necessities.

After our trip to the city, we headed up to Signal Hill to get a bird's eye view of Cape Town.

We met our first guineafowl, a sacred bird in South Africa.

A view of the bay and Cape Town from the top of Signal Hill.

Another from the top of Signal Hill. The bowl-looking structure toward the left is a stadium built for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Relaxing on the balcony. We were feeling pretty good about life.

Exploring our neighborhood before dinner,

We had dinner at the Blue Chip Jazz Restaurant, a small local place with good live music and (almost) dancing.  We went to bed early to try and recover from jet lag.
